Charlatans added to The Great Escape

With just over five weeks until The Great Escape kicks off the UK festival season for 2009 on May 14th, 15th & 16th, Europe’s fastest growing music festival and conference event is set to announce a series of amazing additions to their already incredible line up. Spread across 34 venues in Brighton the event will play host to 300 of the most influential and important bands in the music scene, all in just 3-days.

Joining Kasabian, Patrick Wolf, Noah & The Whale and The Maccabees will be the mighty Charlatans. Taking part in the Road To V activity at the festival, the band will be playing a much-anticipated set. Purveyors of guilt-edged grooves since 1990, The Charlatans are one of the UK’s best-loved bands with a back catalogue of musical treasures to rival all-comers. Also adding their weight to the line up is the legendary Gang of Four. One of post-punk’s most influential bands, Gang of Four’s skeletal funk has laid the foundations for an array of the biggest acts of the last 20 years including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against The Machine and The Rapture to name but three.

Bringing his funk-flecked incisive lyricism on a trip to the seaside, Jack Alsopp, AKA Just Jack will be showcasing brand new material from his third long-player 'Embers’, whilst The Rumble Strips will also be airing new material from their Mark Ronson produced new album. Mystery Jets will be inducing mosh-pit hysteria with their sunshine pop-stylings, Roddy Woomble fronted Idlewild will be playing their much-loved trademark sweeping rock and soaring riffs and Bard loving top tips Titus Andronicus will be heading in from New Jersey to spread some of their dream-pop vibes.
